The Rules
There aren't many. That's the point.
How it works
- You get one trash per day. Paste a website, confirm, done. The next one unlocks at 00:00 UTC.
- No accounts. No sign up, no login, no email, no password. We don't want to know who you are. We only want to know what you can't stand.
- One anonymous cookie remembers that you already trashed something today. That's the whole identity system.
- We never visit the websites you submit. We keep the domain and nothing else.
https://www.example.com/whatever?x=1becomesexample.com. - Reasons are optional and predefined. There is no comment box. There will never be a comment box.
The rankings
- ๐ฅ Trending Trash counts the last 24 hours.
- ๐๏ธ Top Trash counts everything, forever.
- ๐ Hall of Shame: reach 1,000 trash votes and a website is inducted. Permanently. The rankings change. The Hall of Shame remembers.
Questions people ask
- Can I undo a trash?
- No. Choose wisely.
- If I delete the cookie, can I vote again?
- Yes. We know. That's between you and your conscience.
- Why only one per day?
- Because scarcity creates meaning. Also because it's funnier.
- Can I trash trashtheinternet.com?
- Of course. We'd be a little hurt if nobody did.
- Do you sell my data?
- We don't have any. A random cookie and a list of domains is the entire database.
- What's your business model?
- We focus on long-term value creation, not short-term revenue. Phase one: capture the global market for throwing things away. Phase two: consolidate the category through strategic acquisitions of adjacent players, starting with the back button, the Delete key, and the recycle bin. Phase three: monetization, which the board has scheduled for later. Trash is a platform. We intend to own it.
- I'm an investor. Are you raising a round?
- Always. Mostly eyebrows. Our total addressable market is the entire Internet, our burn rate is one trash per day, and the only thing you can put into this company is a domain name.
- My website is in the Hall of Shame. What can I do?
- Frame it. Thousands of people worked hard to put you there, and nothing on this site can be undone. The Hall of Shame never forgets. Your visitors might, if you remove the pop-ups.
- Can I pay to get my website into the Hall of Shame? That backlink would be great for SEO.
- No. There is no sponsored shame, no featured placement, and no backlink program. The Hall of Shame is earned one disappointed person at a time. Play fair. If you're in a hurry, add more pop-ups.
One person. One trash. One day.
